Research papers are unlikely to be selected for an award unless they fully meet the contest criteria.
A pair of students or a small team may collectively submit a project as long as each student is currently enrolled in high school and is between 15 and 18 years of age on September 1, 2020. Any prize money would be shared among all teammates.
